In the midst of dark times--the old man's mother is in the hospital--he reports receiving some good news: Of the 69 students who took the AP English language and composition exam this year, 23 received a passing score. Now I'm no math whiz but I think that's well over 25%. Didn't the old man make a wager with his students?
